Desert tour From Marrakech to Merzouga

4 Days

Itinerary

Upon arrival, our driver and guide will be waiting to accompany you to our vehicle. We'll set our course towards the High Atlas via the Tizi'n Tichka Pass, soaring at an elevation of 2260 m. This journey takes us through a scenic mountain road sprinkled with quaint villages and cascading waterfalls. The local tongue refers to Tizi'n Tichka as the "pasture's neck," and the route is truly awe-inspiring, characterized by an ever-changing landscape and a kaleidoscope of colors adding to its dramatic allure. We'll pause for a refreshing mint tea, allowing you a moment to soak in the stunning surrounds before proceeding to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, our lunch stop. This village, constructed entirely of adobe - a blend of straw and mud, is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its unique charm has caught the eye of Hollywood, serving as the backdrop for numerous blockbuster films like Gladiator, Babel, Lawrence of Arabia, and many others. After a brief detour to Ouarzazate, we continue our adventure to the valley known as the 'thousand Kasbahs.' Dinner and an overnight stay in Ouarzazate will conclude our day.

Following breakfast, we'll embark on a walk through the Dades Gorge, after which we'll hop back into our vehicle to traverse the famed 'road of a thousand Kasbahs.' Our journey will take us through the village of Tineghier, notable for its Jewish quarter, as we make our way to the Todra Gorge in time for a lunch stop. A guided stroll through the grooves allows us to appreciate the mesmerizing beauty of the surrounding landscape before we resume our adventure towards the Merzouga desert.

Upon arrival, we'll swap our car for camels, the ideal companions to navigate the undulating dunes of Erg Chebbi. Our destination is an exclusive tented camp nestled at the foot of these majestic dunes. Here, you'll have the chance to relish a traditional dinner, serenaded by the rhythmic beats of Berber drums and local songs. With a bit of luck, and given clear weather conditions, you'll have the unique opportunity to witness the breathtaking spectacle of the Milky Way unfurling across the night sky.

As the sun peeks over the horizon, awakening the nomadic lands, you'll start your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on an excursion to Rissani. Known as the ancient Sijilmassa, this city was once the economic hub of Morocco, the starting point of caravan trails traversing the desert. Today, it continues to host a vibrant market famous for its assortment of medicinal herbs, donkeys, and Berber artifacts. Here, amidst a plethora of traditional Kasbahs and historical structures, you'll discover Morocco's rich heritage.

For lunch, you'll be treated to the genuine warmth and hospitality of the local Tuareg community. A family will welcome you into their humble abode, offering a taste of the traditional Berber pizza, a delicacy enriched with an exotic blend of 44 spices. Following this immersive culinary experience, we will return to Rissani, charting a different route via the village of N'Kob and the picturesque Draa valley.

On the way, we'll pause for a refreshing tea break and a tour of Ouarzazate, often dubbed as the 'door of the desert.' Our journey then continues through the lush valley of roses as we make our way back to Marrakech. The day concludes with a scrumptious dinner and a restful night in your hotel, punctuating another memorable day of exploration.

It appears that our remarkable journey has reached its conclusion, and while it's time to say goodbye, we eagerly look forward to welcoming you back for another exploration of our stunning Morocco. Depending on your flight schedule, we will ensure a timely escort to the airport, wishing you a safe and pleasant journey back home. Until we meet again, we hope the memories of this trip continue to bring you joy and warmth.
